‘09 Fujin Green

Sweet, thick, green

Presenting with a joyful aroma even in its dry state, the ’09 Fujin Green provides a chance to taste an entry-level production from a super glitzy factory, Fujin.  This is a Menghai offering through and through, expressing a rock sugar and fruit signature without any hint of flowers or smoke.

Fujin Green is stone pressed and Hunan stored, not a wet part of Hunan either.  For a cake so moderately pressed, it exhibits very little transformation.  That’s great for those keen on green cakes.  This cake is green.  It even has some green grass notes that are never typically offered through the Puerh Junky Collection.  Stored in Los Angeles since Nov ’21.

The broth is consistently murky through the fifth infusion.  Every infusion is very sweet, with a grassy finish, a slight camphor cooling too.  On the bright side, the qi expresses quickly.  By the end of the second infusion, the qi starts working on the arms, back, and in the chest.  The first three infusions are thick, even flash brewed.

By that third infusion, the evil fuzzy taste indicating that it is starting to move to another stage starts to emerge.  By the sixth it disappears, and this is where a slight bitter note, clarity, and righteous Menghai briskness shows itself.  The sweetness is consistent throughout, though the thickness wanes.  A nice perfume note emerges in the eighth infusion, along with a light roasted note, and some throatiness.  In the tenth round, I gave it three minutes where it went back to being thick, stilled maintained the fruity and sweet vibe.  Only other thing is that after the first three rounds, I had to sit out a spell as the qi was a shade daunting.  My favourite infusion was the 9th.
