The ’15 BZ Huangpian is a sweet and bright brick that goes down easy.  Being huangpian it stands decidedly at the opposite end of the bitter and piercing spectrum.  Most huangpian this young fall in the Fruit Class.  The BZ Huangpian is no exception.  It should be drunk now, though it might be interesting to see how it develops with time.  It’s been stored in Los Angeles since Feb ’21.  Aging with this offering is not much of an issue though it appears to have been moderately dry stored.

Out the gate, the wet leaves give off a honeydew aroma.  The aroma carries over into the taste, which is sweet and instantly slick in the mouth.  This fruity sweetness carries through to the end, with a thread of perfume that is altogether pleasant.  Astringency is on the light side, with just a touch of throatiness.  Along the way, there is also some citrus, possibly tangerine peel and a pleasant fruit perfume note.

It’s not till the seventh infusion that it fully opens.  That’s given 10s infusions in purple clay.  Aside from a shade of more prominent bitterness, the seventh infusion possessed the unmistakable taste of dulce de leche.  Generally, heavy-handed brewing won’t likely ruin an overall jovial drinking experience.  That said, by the middle of the third infusion a heady qi starts to emerge, along with a curious heavy sensation in the mouth and cheeks.  By the fourth infusion, the BZ Huangpian is downright mouthy, a la novocaine.  The 11th infusion was given 10m.  That produced an unpleasantly bitter brew.  250g.
