To call it DLF (Deceptive Little F&#!) is poor form, but it is. The qi is catastrophically strong, in marked contrast to its overall genteel personae. Colour full on copper. Aroma subtle incense, golden delicious apple, light honeysuckle. All transfers to gentle broth, possessing complete sweetness. Outstanding honeysuckle and sweet huigan. Distinctive sour accent. Astringency isn’t drying but sticky as from sugar. Overall composition sophisticated, not brash. The same composition could come across in an ultra aggressive manner but this doesn’t, except for the qi, which is seriously no joke: heady, heart-quickening, neck nape heavy. This production won a gold metal at the The First National Tea Appraiser Convention in ’07. Boyou is another disciple from Menghai TF with outstanding reputation for ripes. Their raw productions are only now entering form, so more fanfare around raws may be in the offing. As point of comparison, the ‘88 Qing Bing didn’t start building a reputation till after ’04. Boyou TF started a little before ’06 The processing style and raw material quality of Deception is identical to the only other Boyou raw production Puerh Junky has sampled. There’s an Yiwu vibe in that initially there is little character, not even astringency. Aged properly, its broth still comes off very subdued, which is dreadfully deceptive given the performance of huigan and qi.
